The Detox Process
Our alcohol and drug detox program in our residential treatment centers provide the perfect environment to safely detox from substances such as alcohol and drugs, the therapy to heal your associated triggers, and the community to support you through sobriety.
We understand the difficulties surrounding addiction and take an empathetic approach to your symptoms and the withdrawal process. Our detox residential program provides clinically supported medication to ease withdrawal symptoms with round-the-clock supervision in a safe, home-like environment. Once you’ve successfully detoxed, typically 5-7 days, we’ll assess your next level of care, which includes therapy, case management sessions in an individual and group setting, and holistic healing.
Our Safe and Supportive Medical Detox Program
Our goal is to make the detox process as safe and comfortable as possible. As part of our residential rehab admission process, you will meet with our clinical team to determine if detox is the right step. If so, we’ll assist you throughout the detox process with medication-assisted therapy as well as your transition into our full residential rehab program.
Medical detoxification, or medical detox, is often the first step in recovery from substance abuse to safely manage withdrawal symptoms in individuals who have become physically dependent on a substance.
Our full continuum of care offers seamless transition beyond detox and rehab, which includes our sober living homes at New Life House, our in person or virtual outpatient programs, Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), or weekly therapy options, offered by our partners at Neuro Wellness Spa.

Frequently asked questions
Read through our FAQ for any questions you may have, or give us a call today. We are here to answer your questions and support you or your loved one through their healing journey.
How long does it take to detox from alcohol?
Detoxing from alcohol is dependent on the severity of your alcoholism. In most cases, it will take around 5-7 days to detox from alcohol, with clients reporting the third day of their detox being the most difficult. Our detox program in our residential facilities provides around-the-clock support from our clinical staff, with medication assistance if necessary. We are there to support your withdrawal, monitor your progress, and ensure your safety throughout the entire process.
What is detox? And how long does it take to detox?
Detox is a stage in which the mind and body go into once it starts letting go of a chemical that it has been dependent on for some time. Detoxing is usually associated with the idea of cleansing, but with substance use, it’s an intense physical, emotional, and behavioral withdrawal that can have some unbearable features. However, detox is the most effective in providing the first steps towards a better and healthier you.
The detox process is dependent on the substance you are detoxing from, but most clients find success in their detox and withdrawal symptoms within 5-7 days of starting the process. You will detox safely in our residential treatment center with the support of our clinical team for any challenges that may arise during your detox.
How to detox from drugs?
Detoxing from drugs depends on the drug you are detoxing from. Different drugs create different symptoms when it comes to detoxing. If not handled correctly, detoxing from substances such as Xanax and Alcohol can be fatal. If the addiction is severe, it will require medical supervision. However, medical detox is the most effective in all cases if the substance use is severe. Detoxing from drugs and alcohol can cause a complex reaction to the body and mind, depending on how long you or your loved one has been using, if there is a combination of substances being used, and for how long. Detoxing is also measured in reaction to any other co-occurring medical conditions you might have.
What does your detox program consist of?
After your initial assessment with our clinical staff, you will check in to our residential treatment center in the South Bay of Los Angeles to start your detox program. Our in-house nurses work with our doctor to safely administer medication to assist your specific withdrawal symptoms, monitor your progress, and provide round-the-clock support throughout the entire process.
What can I bring to detox?
When you check into our residential treatment center, you will start with your detox process, and once you’ve successfully detoxed, join your peers in our residential program, which includes therapy, daily group sessions, and holistic therapy.
We want you to be comfortable throughout your treatment, and recommend packing like you’re going on a week-long vacation. One week of clothes that include options for hot or cold weather, different activities such as lounging, movement like yoga, and casual wear for your daily group meetings. You will have access to laundry throughout your stay.

What medications are used for detox?
The medications we use to maximize the safety and comfort of the detox process vary based on the substance abused and the severity of your withdrawal symptoms. Some examples include:
- Opioid Use Disorder: Medications such as Tegretol and gabapentin can help manage withdrawal symptoms and cravings.
- Alcohol Use Disorder: Medications such as benzodiazepines (diazepam or lorazepam), gabapentin, and tegretol can help manage symptoms of alcohol withdrawal, including anxiety, seizures, insomnia, and cravings.
- Sedative Use Disorder: Medications such as diazepam or chlordiazepoxide can help manage withdrawal symptoms, such as seizures and anxiety.
- Stimulant Use Disorder: Medications such as benzodiazepines or antipsychotics can be used to manage symptoms of stimulant withdrawal, including anxiety, agitation, and paranoia.
At Clear, medications are only used under the supervision of a licensed medical professional and when necessary. Our strong belief is that medications are just one part of a personalized, comprehensive treatment plan, used in combination with our treatment programs. All medication decisions are made in collaboration with your needs, and medication selection is dependent on your unique medical history, current health status, health goals and other factors.
