Parent Support Groups in Los Angeles, California
Uncover the Advantages of Parent Support Groups Today
Watching your teen go through mental health challenges can be difficult to navigate as a parent. You are aware that you can only help them so much, but over time, the guilt can build. Your need to help them make everything better can become overwhelming and challenging.
When this happens, finding a parent support group can be beneficial. While your teen gets support and treatment, you can also get emotional guidance and support. Learning how to best support your teen with their challenges and connecting with other parents in similar circumstances will help you better understand and connect with your teen.
At Clear Behavioral Health, we understand the benefits that parent support groups in Los Angeles, CA offer and include it in all of our teen mental health treatment programs.
How Parent Support Groups Help You
Parent support groups offer a lot of benefits. Having a space for parents to share what they are going through, where others can truly empathize with their feelings, provides a healing space to feel less alone. You’ll not only listen to other group members but also be able to share about the struggles you’re facing.
Your teens have group therapy and peer support groups of their own within our treatment programs, and our parent support groups give the whole family a place to heal.
In these groups, you’ll learn how to manage your emotions, process what you may be going through, learn tangible coping skills, swap advice with other parents experiencing similar concerns, and even get tips on better communication with your teen.

What to Expect in Our Parent Support Groups
Our parent support groups are held once a week, for a type of multi-family group therapy. The first part of the group is with all of the parents, teens, and treatment team. In the second half of the group’s therapy session, the parents and teen are split into separate groups and the parents can expand on what they went over in the joined group or engage in more parent-focused topics.
Additionally, monthly family therapy with you and your teen is held where you can discuss progress, struggles, or issues you want to work through together. A more intimate session compared to the group ones, you and your teen can discuss interactions in the group you’d like to break down with a treatment provider.
Methods Used in Parent Support Groups
Parent support groups are valuable when it comes to teen mental health treatment because of all the supportive treatment methods that are available.
- Communication workshops where you can work on how you communicate with your teen and manage your reactions in conversations.
- Group activities like arts and crafts so you can express yourself in a different way, while reconnecting with different forms of stress relief.
- Understanding attachment styles through therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can give you insight into certain behaviors your teen might exhibit, and understand their attachment style so you can learn how to properly interact with them.
- Psychological education like learning how to manage emotions, working on changing thought patterns, and de-escalating stressful situations.
- Model therapy sessions are a great way to gain insight into the experience your teen is having. This can also help with how you interact with therapists or anyone talking about sensitive topics with your teen.
- Q&A between parents and their teens offers a space to have an open conversation and learn more about the treatment process.
