Find the Right Anxiety Treatment Program for Your Teen in California

Specialized anxiety treatment for teens

Anxiety is a feeling of fear or tension that happens as a response to real or perceived threats. The teenage years, marked by new experiences, opportunities, and challenges, are generally more stressful. Anxious teens display signs such as panic, social withdrawal, irritability, nervousness, restlessness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, sleep problems, muscle tension, headaches, and stomachaches.

Anxiety is a common human feeling among teenagers. If left untreated, it can be increasingly difficult for them to engage socially, keep up academically, or feel confident about themselves. At Clear Behavioral Health, we take a personalized approach to treating your teen’s anxiety, tailoring our treatment program to their unique needs and challenges. Our experts connect with your teen in a warm, home-like therapeutic environment, where they can develop the skills, emotional resilience, and confidence needed to navigate real-world challenges.

What to expect with our anxiety treatment program

At Clear Behavioral Health, our teen intensive outpatient program (IOP) is the primary anxiety treatment program we offer for teens who live with family and attend school. Our program is specifically designed for teens who need more support than weekly therapy. We offer convenient after-school scheduling so your teen can receive consistent care without disrupting their routine.

The duration of our program is typically 90 days or more, depending on your teen’s individual needs and progress. Before treatment begins, we conduct an individualized assessment of your teen’s anxiety. We tailor our treatment plan around your teen’s specific challenges.

Teen IOP

Our in-person intensive outpatient program (IOP) is designed specifically for adolescents and provides structured support in a therapeutic environment. This program includes:

Frequently asked questions

What therapies are used for teen anxiety treatment?

Teen anxiety is primarily treated with psychotherapy—most notably Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)—along with medication and lifestyle changes. Other therapies include exposure therapy, skills-based therapies, and group therapy.

Can teen anxiety be treated without medication?

Yes, anxiety can often be managed and treated without medication through psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, and holistic techniques.

What are the physical signs of anxiety in teens?

Physical signs of anxiety in teens include frequent headaches, stomach aches, fatigue, and muscle tension. Teens may also experience rapid heart rate, sweating, trembling, and sleep disturbances.

What is the difference between social anxiety and general anxiety in teens?

Social anxiety is primarily characterized by fear of being judged, embarrassed, or negatively evaluated in social situations, such as speaking in class, meeting new people, eating in public, or attending parties. General anxiety is focused on stress related to grades, health, family, friendships, and the future.

Should my teen try therapy before considering medication for anxiety?

Starting with therapy-based anxiety treatment is recommended if your teen’s symptoms are mild to moderate. Therapy helps your teen learn skills that they can use to counter their anxiety, long after treatment ends, and can help clarify whether additional support is needed. If your teen’s anxiety is severe, a combination of therapy and medication often provides the fastest and most effective relief.
