Millions of people throughout the United States struggle with prescription drug abuse. Getting clean from prescription drugs is difficult, which is why so many people have difficulty when attempting to quit on their own.

If you are ready to stop using prescription drugs, Clear Behavioral Health can help you get through the challenging first few days through our medically supervised prescription drug detox services.

By entering our detox program, you can safely experience withdrawal from prescription drugs to remove these addictive chemicals from your body, preparing you for the next step of addiction treatment.

Our Prescription Drug Detox Program in Los Angeles, CA

Detoxing from prescription drugs is a challenging process, and it is important to do so in a safe and supportive environment. Here at Clear Behavioral Health, we can help you safely experience withdrawal from prescription drugs and provide continuous health monitoring to ensure you remain as comfortable as possible throughout your stay.

Our approach to addiction and prescription drug detox treatment is unique as we offer the continuum of care for detoxing from prescription drugs.

What is the Continuum of Care?

Finding comprehensive mental health and addiction treatment can be challenging, with many services operating separately—requiring you to seek detox, therapy, and other levels of care individually while navigating insurance coverage.

At Clear Behavioral Health, we simplify this process by offering a full continuum of care under one roof. From residential detox and rehab to outpatient therapy, we provide seamless, in-network treatment so you can focus on healing while we handle the logistics.

How Our Prescription Drug Detox Program Works

Our prescription drug detox program begins with a comprehensive assessment to evaluate your addiction and withdrawal symptoms. You’ll then enter our residential detox program in the Los Angeles area, where you can safely detox in a comfortable, home-like setting with 24/7 medical support.

Following detox, our rehab program provides continuous care, including therapy, group support, relapse prevention planning, and holistic treatments. As you progress, you can transition into our outpatient programs—PHP and IOP—offered at multiple locations throughout Los Angeles.

Even after completing treatment, you’ll have ongoing support through our in-person and online resources, a strong alumni community, and opportunities to help others on their recovery journey.

Initial Assessment

Your recovery journey begins with a comprehensive medical assessment to evaluate the severity of your prescription drug dependence, withdrawal symptoms, and overall health.

Based on your unique needs, we create a personalized treatment plan to support you through detox, ensuring a safe and effective process for clearing all traces of prescription medications from your system. Our medical team provides 24/7 care to manage withdrawal symptoms and prepare you for the next steps in your recovery.

Prescription Drug Medically Assisted Detox

As your body begins the process of eliminating prescription drugs from your system, you will receive around-the-clock care and monitoring from our medical team. FDA-approved medications may be provided to help make some of the more uncomfortable symptoms easier to manage. You will also meet regularly with our staff psychiatrist to monitor these symptoms and adjust your medication as necessary.

The detoxification process is different for everyone. However, most people will go through several stages. During the first few days, cravings and withdrawal symptoms are the most intense.

These should begin to decrease over time until you reach stabilization. The exact timeframe of withdrawal differs depending on the type of prescription drug you are taking, the length of time you’ve taken it and your overall health.

    What is Prescription Drug Detox?

Detoxing from prescription drugs can be dangerous, as medications like benzodiazepines, stimulants, and opioids can cause intense physical and psychological withdrawal symptoms. Attempting to quit on your own increases the risk of relapse and potential health complications.

At Clear Behavioral Health, our prescription drug detox program provides a safe, medically supervised environment where you can withdraw under the care of our professional team.

We monitor your symptoms closely, provide medications to ease discomfort, and offer compassionate support to help you navigate this critical first step. Detox not only helps you through withdrawal but also prepares you physically and mentally for ongoing treatment and lasting recovery.

How does Detoxing from Prescription Drugs Affect the Brain?

The manner in which prescription drugs affect the brain depends on the nature of the drug, as well as how often you take it and the dosage you are taking. For example, benzodiazepines cause a sedating effect, while opiates create a feeling of euphoria and pain relief. Long-term use of benzodiazepines, opiates and stimulants may also affect the way your brain produces neurotransmitters, leading to a rebound effect when you attempt to quit.

When taken long enough, prescription drugs can lead to physical and psychological dependence. They may also contribute to the development of mental illness symptoms or make preexisting mental illness worse.

Once you stop taking prescription drugs, you may experience significant withdrawal symptoms, including muscle aches, nausea, panic attacks, depression, hallucinations and heart palpitations. In some cases, prescription drug withdrawal can even be fatal without proper medical monitoring and assistance.

The Psychological Effects of Prescription Drugs Detox

Prescription drugs are powerful psychoactive medications that alter neurotransmitter activity associated with the brain’s reward system. If they are abused for a substantial period of time, they can significantly change the way parts of your brain work and communicate with each other.

If you decide to stop using prescription drugs, you may experience significant psychological symptoms, including anxiety, panic attacks, nightmares, agitation and depression. These withdrawal symptoms range in severity and may be dangerous without the proper support.

If you are considering quitting, seeking professional help is important. If you attempt to detox from prescription pills on your own, difficult withdrawal symptoms may lead to the temptation to use them again.

      • What medications are used for prescription drug detox?

To ensure a safe and comfortable prescription drug detox, we customize medications based on the severity of withdrawal symptoms.

Medications such as benzodiazepines, buprenorphine, or antidepressants can help manage common withdrawal effects like anxiety, pain, and nausea by stabilizing the brain’s response. These treatments aim to facilitate a smoother detox process and assist in the transition to recovery.

At Clear Behavioral Health, medications are only administered under the supervision of licensed medical professionals and when deemed necessary.

We believe that medications are one component of a holistic treatment plan, used in combination with other therapeutic interventions. Medication choices are made in close collaboration with you, taking into account your medical history, health goals, and specific needs.

The multi-pronged approach; the counselors, individual therapy, nutrition, sympathetic/empathetic counselors of each group session shifted my brain paths. You are never finished there, even when you “graduate”, they hold alumni group sessions when you feel you need it. I have nothing but gratitude for their program.

Clear Behavioral Health is my second family that I never knew I had that supported me and continues to passionately support the sober community. The therapists, counselors and group facilitators have been amazing in helping me have a voice, loving myself again, and seeing the world in a new light. I am eternally grateful.

From the get go, the staff made me feel welcome and were all very friendly. My therapist and case manager were also very helpful and supportive throughout the whole process. I found that the somatic therapy was the most valuable for me, the therapist who ran those groups was great. My biggest takeaway from treatment was to take the time to pause, not be afraid to ask for help, and not worry about things in the moment. If you are looking for meaningful change and being part of a new and supportive community, then Clear Behavioral Health is the right fit.

Overall I loved the experience and did not want to leave. The staff was very helpful and motivated me to stay even when I felt like running away. I also built meaningful connections with my therapist and case manager who gave me a lot of useful advice and are still supporting me today. Since leaving, my family and sponsor have noticed a big difference, and I could not recommend a more supportive environment for addiction and mental health treatment, Clear saved my life.
