What is Dual Diagnosis?

Dual Diagnosis is a clinical term for those diagnosed with a substance use disorder or addiction and a mental health disorder at the same time. Clear’s dual diagnosis treatment centers throughout the Los Angeles, California area provide comprehensive treatment for these individuals to understand how one diagnosis influences the other, and provides support every step of the way.

Our expert therapeutic and clinical team takes a holistic approach to help you heal from mental health and co-occurring disorders, including trauma, depression, anxiety and substance abuse, by integrating education about chemical dependency and mental health, evidence-based individual and group therapy, and experiential wellness groups.

    How Our Dual Diagnosis Programs Work

    After years of experience in the mental health and substance use industry, we’ve carefully curated a robust clinical model that offers comprehensive programs for long-lasting, sustainable recovery at our dual diagnosis treatment centers.

    Most clients start at the PHP level of care and participate in therapeutic programming 5 days a week for 6 hours a day which includes weekly individual and group therapy,  counseling sessions, medication management, and more.

    After PHP, clients step down into IOP and participate 3 to 5 days a week for 3 hours a day before transitioning back into their independent lifestyle. All of our amazing levels of care provide:

    Clear Behavioral Health’s dual diagnosis facilities use a comprehensive approach. Each level of care includes a combination of evidence-based modalities including:

    • Group therapy sessions to provide a sense of community, promote self-regulation, and establish a support network of peers
    • Individual therapy to support continued healing from underlying issues, gain insight and set goals
    • Counseling to build skills for navigating transition and creating positive change

      In our outpatient dual diagnosis program, clients typically have a structured daily schedule that includes individual and group therapy sessions, experiential modalities, and dedicated time to focus on life skills. Our robust clinical model offers comprehensive programming for sustainable recovery.

      Most clients start at the PHP level of care and participate in therapeutic programming 5 days a week for 6 hours a day which includes weekly individual therapy and counseling sessions, group therapy, medication management, and other evidence-based treatments.

      After PHP which typically lasts 4 weeks, most of our clients choose to step down into Clear’s IOP and participate 3 to 5 days a week for 3 hours a day for 4-8 weeks before transitioning back into an independent lifestyle.
