Many people suffer from addiction, alcohol use disorder, and mental health issues within the United States. These conditions can be life-threatening, yet a majority of those suffering do not seek treatment. Various factors can prevent you from reaching out like stigma, believing mental health myths, and just naturally feeling overwhelmed.

Even though it’s scary, reaching out for help shows courage, and there are many options available now than ever before. Drug and alcohol treatment centers are not always widely known and if you are struggling with drug or alcohol abuse, it may seem daunting trying to start your recovery journey.

Making Sense of Treatment Options

When searching through the lists of different treatment options and centers, the information might seem foreign, and none of the terms make any sense to you. The treatment options can be confusing when you do not know what each one entails.

The idea of recovery itself is already mentally exhausting, and the mental gymnastics to figure out the logistics of finding treatment programs and drug and alcohol treatment centers is enough to give up seeking help at all. This is why understanding what’s involved in treatment might make the step to getting help easier to take.

What are Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs?

Depending on the type and severity of substance use, treatments can vary. Across the board medical detox, drug and alcohol rehab centers, and outpatient programs that include talk therapy, support groups, and holistic modalities are the most effective methods for treating alcohol and drug abuse. Clear Behavioral Health combines all of these methods into one comprehensive addiction treatment program, to offer the greatest chance of long-term sobriety.

What’s The Process at Clear Behavioral Health Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers?

Picking up the phone and calling is the first step. Once you’re patched in with our admissions team, we will go over verifying your insurance and discuss the treatment steps within the program. During this time, we will ask various questions during the assessment to see which drug and alcohol treatment program fits your needs best.

After your assessment, the treatment process is as follows:

Medical Detox

When entering the Clear Behavioral Health residential treatment program, if needed, you’ll go through detox first. Our drug and alcohol detox treatment centers create a homelike environment, so you are comfortable and safe while detoxing. Additionally, there is 24/7 around-the-clock care provided by our compassionate staff.

To ease withdrawal symptoms, medical professionals will use medications approved to aid in the detox process. This is important for your safety while detoxing, as suddenly stopping certain substances—like drinking alcohol—can lead to severe withdrawal symptoms. The detoxing process can take anywhere from a few days to a week [2].

Residential Treatment Program

Once detox is complete, and your withdrawal symptoms have subsided, you’ll transition to our residential treatment center. This level of care is similar to the detox phase in terms of the level of care and support that you receive. However, you will have more time for therapy, focus on underlying mental disorders, and prepare yourself to navigate sobriety. That includes one-on-one therapy, group therapy, and holistic modalities. You’ll also be connected to a case manager who can help you build important life skills [1].

Outpatient Treatment Program

When discharged from the residential treatment center, we recommend transitioning into our outpatient substance abuse program, which offers the same methods as our residential treatment, such as one-on-one therapy, group therapy, and holistic modalities. This next step is considered a great option for aftercare treatment that will offer tools for long-term success in recovery and help you stay connected in the sobriety community and build your support network. Depending on the level of care needed you may enter either our intensive outpatient program (IOP) or our partial hospitalization program (PHP).

  • PHP: Therapy programs that are 6 hours a day, 5 days a week.
  • IOP: Therapy programs that are 3 hours per day 3 to 5 days a week.

Entrance into either the PHP or IOP program is based on the initial assessment, which will dictate the level of aftercare that’s needed. You’ll learn real-life coping skills that can be implemented in your daily routines that center around relapse prevention.

What Comes After the Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs?

After you are completed with the residential, or outpatient programs, you are not just pushed out into the world and left with all the knowledge you gained in treatment. At Clear Behavioral Health we offer ongoing after-care beyond the completion of your treatment program. The continued care group and alumni programs are support groups that you can join. They offer a space for continued education on life skills to sustain your sobriety and a community of support to carry with you back into your life.

Should I Choose One Drug and Alcohol Treatment Method, instead of a Program?

We recommend attending a drug and alcohol treatment program that compiles talk therapy, support groups, and holistic modalities for the most effective, proven, and long-lasting results in your recovery. At Clear Behavioral Health our treatment programs combine all of these methods to build a recovery program that produces stability for you, that will continue even after the early stages of sobriety.

Why does the combination of these methods matter?

This combination of one-on-one talk therapy, group therapy, and holistic modalities works to reconnect your mind and body, which can become disconnected during substance use. Additionally, these treatments also offer coping skills that you will learn and use as you reintegrate into daily life and a community of peers who understand what you’re experiencing and provide support through your process. When your recovery becomes difficult, your coping mechanisms can ground you and offer the steps needed to reach out for help from your community.

What Does Each Drug and Alcohol Treatment Type Mean?

Talk therapy uses evidence-based interventions and analyzes your background, and substance use history to come up with a proper treatment plan. During this time, a therapist may ask you to seek a support group to find others going through the same thing and build a sense of community.

There is also an opportunity to engage in family therapy during this process to heal everyone involved. Additionally, working on short-term goals, unpacking any past trauma, and assessing if there are any underlying mental health disorders will be talked about during sessions.

Support groups foster relationships that can affirm each other’s experiences and create an atmosphere that’s more comfortable for sharing. Having a nonjudgmental space where others can deeply relate to the experiences and emotions you may all be feeling is critical to creating a safe haven for everyone. This also helps individuals socialize during a time that they may want to withdraw [3].

Holistic modalities are also included to reconnect the body and mind, which can be disconnected when using substances. This method includes meditation, exercise, and mindfulness practices. Learning how to calm the nervous system and quiet the mind offers long-lasting coping skills for everyday stressors. Additionally, you can learn how to realign your nervous system when it may become disconnected during extreme stressors.

Case management is more important than most realize, meeting with your case manager means learning valuable life skills. Every single life skill learned can not only be implemented right away but will help with long-term relapse prevention.
