Why did you decide to get sober, or what turn of events lead you to Clear Behavioral Health?
At first I was resistant to being sober. As time went on, I realized that I had no other choice but to do so if I wanted to be happy and be someone who people could rely on. I wanted to do what ever I could to get out of the way I was feeling on a daily basis and using drugs as a solution was not working for me anymore.
How has your perspective on life changed since beginning recovery?
In the process of going to Clear, the facts about why I drank and used were uncovered and addressed every day. I wasn’t used to opening up about what drove me to use so this was very uncomfortable at times, the staff guided me in such a loving way that I knew they truly cared about my recovery. Since initially getting sober, my outlook on life has completely changed. Through this process I have learned to remain grateful and give rather than take.
What are you looking forward to in the future?
Anything is possible now that I am sober. I grow spiritually and emotionally every day and I look forward to seeing what life has in store for me. I strive to remain close to my roots in recovery and give back to the process as much as I can.
What have you learned about yourself in recovery?
I have learned who I truly am through this process. With the amazing support at Clear, I learned to be happy and comfortable in my own skin.
If you could reach out to someone new in recovery, what advice would you give to them?
Be brutally honest with yourself and remain open minded. Even the smallest bit of willingness will go along way. If you are young and in early recovery take advantage of your situation and capitalize on every opportunity to grow.
