Types of Anxiety Disorders Teens Struggle With
Identifying the type of anxiety disorder you are experiencing can make managing the symptoms easier and your long-term healing more successful. Here are some of the common types of anxiety in teens:
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) – This is an anxiety disorder that tends to manifest in teens through excessive worry about parts of life, not necessarily about a specific aspect.
- Panic Disorder – This involves a physical reaction of intense fear, which can be sudden and unexpected when panic attacks occur.
- Social Anxiety Disorder – For teens, this anxiety disorder presents excessive worry about social interactions, how you are perceived, and fear of embarrassment.
- Separation Anxiety Disorder – This disorder stems from being away from a person or thing that has created comfort for you. It can be so severe that you are unable to be alone, even to complete basic tasks.
-
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) – This anxiety disorder in teens manifests by needing to follow certain processes, numbered sequences, and cleanliness manners. It can vary from person to person, but the occurrence can be severe enough that daily functioning is hindered.
When trying to manage the occurrences of your teen anxiety symptoms, it can also manifest with other mental health conditions like depression, as well as substance abuse. It’s important to manage your anxiety to prevent other mental disorders from developing or worsening. A proper therapeutic plan can help manage and improve co-occurring symptoms.
